The Channel Arts Association was set up in 1987 to instigate and co-ordinate artistic activity in the coastal region of North Devon. Specialising in youth and community arts, the association has a brief for the social regeneration of Ilfracombe and North Devon. In 1989 the Association leased the former ship to shore radio station, overlooking Ilfracombe, and the Ariel Music Centre was opened.

It provides a unique resource for the North Devon area,
offering rehearsal space and equipment,
workshops, a digital recording studio
with
three
'live
'rooms
and rooms available for hire for
meetings. The Ariel continues to develop its range of facilities and opportunities for the community as a whole.
