A
Room With An Underview describe themselves as a band who play a mix of Emo, Hard Rock, Grunge & Hardcore. Whatever you call it, however you try and pigeon hole them, they are certainly one of North Devon’s best up and coming bands. Originally Mush, Underview are a four piece band based in the Woolacombe/Ilfracombe area. The current line up have been together for about three years, although they have been around in some form or another since school. In their first year together they did nothing but practise, concentrating on getting their sound tight, until about a year and a half ago when they ventured out onto the live scene. Since then they have been playing live in a variety of pubs & clubs, as well as winning two battles of the bands and being placed runner up in another, proving you can’t please all the people all of the time, although Underview do give it a very good try. They find their heavy sound is not always easiest to play in the pub situation, but at every gig they always give it their all, mainly by throwing themselves all over the place and generally going nuts. They hope that this makes them different, in a good way! Their set is made up of purely their own material, as they prefer to see people enjoying music that they have created themselves. Robbie says ”We don’t play covers as it’s more satisfying to do our own music, and to see people lose their minds to one of our tracks is ace”. They have recorded three CD’s, “Mush” In 2001, “Signal To Noise” in early 2002 and in October this year they completed recording seven more of their own tracks at the Ariel Studios for release as the “Shudder” EP. However by the time these tracks where completed, the band had written four more tracks, so they have now decided to return to the studio to record these tracks as well and release a full length LP. Underview have also contributed a track to the Ariel’s compilation CD, due out in the beginning of 2003. They were one of the first bands to record, putting their track down in June this year. The CD will have various local bands of varying styles. Underview have brought their own brand of classy heavy rock to the CD, providing it with one of its heavier tracks. When in the studio you can expect the usual drum tracks, a bass track, a few vocal tracks and guitar track, after guitar track, after guitar track! Underview like to layer guitars to produce big thick stereo distorted guitars, wide clean stereo flanges, and little melodic licks, which sit nicely on the solid table of drums and bass provided by the two Garys, over which Robbie plants his vocals. The 24th September this year saw the launch of their great web site www.underview.co.uk, which is worth a look and is where the band can also be contacted, and various demo tracks downloaded, if you wish to do so. (I would recommend it!) Recorded or live Underview are definitely worth checking out. |
